"The Vikki LaMotta Story: Jake, Raging Bull, Playboy, Sinatra and The Mob".

When Jake's boxing career had started to slow down, his drinking increased and he began taking out his anger on Vikki becoming more controlling of her. They divorced in 1957 after 11 years of marriage in which he was physically abusive. After LaMotta retired from boxing, the family moved to Miami, Florida. She had met him the previous year at a community pool while he was still married to his first wife. When she was 16 she married 24 year old Jake LaMotta, after becoming pregnant with his child. For example, her father once cut off all of Vikki's hair to deter what he perceived as sexual attention. Her father was strict and her mother did not intervene. Her paternal grandparents were immigrants from Romania.

She had several siblings, including two sisters, Phyllis and Patricia. She grew up in poverty because of her father’s gambling and frequent losses. She was born in the Bronx, the daughter of Abraham Lucien and Margaret 'Ruth' Thailer.
